Revisiting a space of comfort
I have spent a large portion of my life swimming and sitting poolside but by this, I don’t mean tanning and drinking fruity drinks in the sun like you might have thought... I’m talking about indoor olympic sized pools with diving boards, starting blocks, clock timers, miscellaneous swimming gear, and a coach clocking every stroke, kick, dive and breath. I’m sure you probably preferred that first description but that’s not what this is about.
For me, swimming and sitting poolside was always done at the Nepean Sportsplex in a swim cap and goggles. I was a competitive swimmer, so my life was largely filled with the smell of chlorinated air, the feeling of the water on my skin and the varying sounds that made this space so unique. I moved on from this sport a long time ago, but the memories and sounds that filled this space will always be with me.
And who knows, maybe one day i’ll get back into it but for now i choose to revisit it through sound.
